The design of this comprehensive cancer care facility incorporates a patient-sensitive and comforting environment that makes extensive use of natural materials, colors, and furnishings.

Additions to and renovations of existing spaces in this Regional Referral Hospital to create the Cancer Institute included:

  • Two medical oncology physician office suites

  • A patient resource library

  • An outpatient infusion center

  • A radiation therapy facility with a linear accelerator vault, an HDR room and a CT Simulator

  • Extensive exterior healing gardens and fountains which can be viewed from all interior patient areas

  • A unique aspect of this project was to redesign the existing 2 story rotunda space to serve as a Lobby and Waiting Area while eliminating annoying sound echoes and reflections that had plagued the previous space. Phil Klump worked with an Acoustical Engineer to solve this problem with acoustical canopies and sound absorbing surfaces.

Finishes throughout the facility include wood, stone and earthtone paints and floor materials. The Linear Accelerator Room ceiling includes a large backlit photo of sunlit trees and blue sky to offset patient apprehension and claustrophobia.
